The hockey season has not only started in Hungary but also north of the border in Slovakia as well. Which means that former national team goalie Peter Sevela is back on the ice with Skalica this season.
Like most of the big name players Sevela also left Dunaújváros because of the financial situation, during the offseason and signed with the Slovak club HK 36 Skalica. The Slovak team was looking for a number two goalie after they did not resigned MIroslav Lipovsky. During the preseason Sevela was in battle with last years number one goalie, the 21 year old Patrik Romancik for the starting spot.
“We alternated during the preseason each of us starting every other game, it is an open race and we will see who will be the starter.” said Sevela during the Gábor Ocskay memorial tournament.
The preseason went well for Sevela, even if he hasn’t locked up the starting gig he is at least equal with Romancik as they have each have started two games in the young season. Skalica has not started the season well as they have lost all four of their games.
For Hungarian hockey fans they can find a couple familiar names on the Skalica roster as Miroslav Durak played for UTE last season and Henrich Jabornik was Peter Sevela’s teammate in Dunaújváros two seasons ago
It sounds like Peter left a part of him in Hungary, “I liked Dunaújváros I was there for six seasons, the city and the people were like my family, now I understand everything in the locker room and it's fun but it is a lot of work.”
