After spending the past five season protecting the goal of DAB.Docler in the MOL League Peter Sevela will become a Hungarian citizen and be eligible to play for the national team in the upcoming world championships in South Korea. Sevela has pulled on the Hungarian national team jersey in past but that was in the EIHC four nations tournament but never in an official IIHF event.
Sevela hails from Martin Slovakia or in Hungarian Turczószentmárton, Sevela played in both the Slovak U-18 and U-20 national teams. In 2003 he was the number one keeper for the U-20 team ahead of former NHL draft pick and current Nové Zámky keeper Jan Chovan.
Sevela will put down the oath to become a Hungarian citizen on the ice during the Hungarian Cup this upcoming weekend in Miskolc.
With Sevela eligible it looks like Hungarian head coach Rich Chernomaz and goalie coach Gary Clark will have their hands full in which two goalies to pick for the national team from a group that will include Sevela, Bence Bálizs, Miklós Rajna, and Zoltán Hetényi among others.
