After coming back from a four goal deficit against favored Great Britain but only to lose, Hungary was playing Austria in the hopes of finishing in fifth place and top of the lower house.
Tamás Kiss got his second start of the tournament after Attila Hoffmann gave him the nod in place of Krisztián Budai.
Hungary killed their first penalty of the game but they were not able to get out of their end as Andre Neic scored for Austria to make it 1-0. Attila Rafaj struck quickly to pull Hungary back even as Hungary took the ensuing faceoff and scored 25 seconds later.
In the second period things started to click for Hungary as Vilmos Gallo took a pass from Rafaj and put it into the back of the net to give Hungary the one goal lead. Less than a minute later another young Hungarian put the puck past Patrick Machreich, the Austrian goalie, this time it was István Terbócs off of a pass from Balázs Bartalis. Johannes Lins and Terbócs got into a bit of a tussle which ended in offsetting penalties in the last minute of the second period.
The second half of the game started rather uneventfully, Lins, the Austrian forward was called for a high stick five minutes into the third period. With Hungary up 3-1 it looked as if all that was missing from the game was an Ákos Kiss goal who had four game goal scoring streak coming into the match and in the fourth period he scored his sixth goal in five games to extend the streak. Just like in the second period Hungary scored twice within a minute again, this time Bartalis scored 53 seconds after the Kiss goal. Later in the fourth Austria took a high sticking penalty, Austria head coach Andreas Wanner decided to switch goalies, pulling Machreich for Stefan Fellinger. The switch didn't help as Szilárd Sándor scored the power play goal. In the final minute of the game Gallo scored his second of the game. After letting in a goal early in the game Tamás Kiss shut down the Austrian attack the rest of the way. The player of the game for Hungary was István Terbócs.
With the win Hungary will play the winner of the Latvia-Bulgaria game for fifth place.
