Like in football there will be a Hungarian Super Cup - officially MME Super Cup for sponsoring reasons -, which will be a two match affair being held on the 11th and 12 of February.
The winner will be the team that wins the most points over the course of the two games (points: 3-2-1-0). On Tuesday the puck will drop at 18:00 in Dunaújváros and on Wednesday at 20:00 in Székesfehérvár.
Just like in football where it is the domestic cup champion taking on the domestic league champion, here the MOL League winner therefore Hungarian champion Dab.Docler taking on Hungarian Cup winner Sapa Fehérvár AV19 which plays in the Austrian league during the season and have the strongest squad in Hungary and provide the most players to the national team.
In the end whoever wins the Super Cup will hands down be the best hockey club in Hungary this season. For the Super Cup the same rules will apply for the number of import players a team can dress as in the MOL League and the Hungarian Cup.
With Dab.Docler already playing under these rules, this should not really be a problem for Stephan Lundh and his staff.
For Marty Raymond and Fehérvár in net and on the blueline this won’t be a problem, either, since all the netminders are Hungarian and with only two of the regular defencemen being imports, whoever they dress will have played a sufficient number of games. However, upfront this could be a bit of a problem since only 13 of the forwards are Hungarian, with Ladislav Sikorcin already out for the season with a torn ACL. Eight of the remaining 12 have played in more than a dozen games.
If the first game on Tuesday ends in a tie there will be no overtime, the only way there will be any OT is that if after the second game both teams have the same amount of points.
