The Hungarian Sports University took on the Oxford Canadians in a friendly at the Kisstadion on today, the home time side took the high scoring game by the score of 10-6.

Oxford currently is on their annual continental European tour where they travel throughout continental Europe by train and play a number of university club teams. They had defeated Groningen University, a team in Holland during their first stop before coming into Budapest early Monday afternoon. Oxford was looking for revenge after losing by two goals, 8-6 in 2014.

The TF team was coached by Gábor Géczi who gave Ágnes Szigeti the start between the pipes for this international match. The Hungarian team had tight lead after the first twenty minutes. This score remained close throughout the later parts of the second period when Oxford visibly started to get tired. TF opened up a four goal lead as they lead 9-5 after two periods, coach Géczi switched goals in the second period of the exhibition game, with Myrtill Hagymási replacing Szigeti. In the third period the scoring dropped by the fight in both teams stayed high as the player followed through on their checks. In the third period Martin Ország dropped his gloves and Norbert Fekecs was also chirping a bit but in the end TF held on to a 10-6 win.

Oxford will move on to Szabadka in Serbia to do some local youth coaching as well as playing a U20 team before heading back up north to go to Vienna and Münich for their back end of their European tour.

The Oxford Canadians trace their club history back to the late 1800s when they were a group of Canadians studying in Oxford England and were not allowed to play for the England or Great Britain in any international competition. The Canadians started to travel through Europe originally taking on national teams. They also happened to win the first Spengler Cup and winning it four times in total.

TF forward Norbert Fekecs: The game was faster paced than I thought it was going to be, it was a hard fought game. It was a great game and we had to pay attention more because of the pace, our goalies played great and we were able to take care of our scoring chances

Oxford team captain Rob Main: After travelling all night we felt that this was a harder game for us and it was a faster pace as well. There was a lot of passing and a lot of passing which is always fun.
