From the Hungarian point of view the 2015-16 Champions Hockey season did not start that well. István Sofron and Krefeld lost and Máté Gáspár was not in the Linz squad, who also lost.
The second season of the CHL started with twelve group stage matches on Thursday, with two games being played by teams that employ a Hungarian player, however only one hit the ice on Thursday.
The first game of the day was a matchup between TPS Turku and Black Wings Linz, the 18 year old Máté Gáspár was in the traveling team for Linz but not make the final game roster. TPS who finished 13th in Finland the previous season took care of the Austrian club by the score of 6-1.
István Sofron and Krefeld also faced a Finnish team in Kärpät Oulu, the German team came up on the short side 2-0. Krefeld had one less shot on net than Kärpät but Sami Aittakallio still pitched a shutout for teh win. Sofron played on the left wing of the top line and registered one shot during the match.
On Friday there will be no games with Hungarian interest, on Saturday Linz will be back on the ice and hopefully with Gáspár in the lineup and Balázs Sebők and KalPa will be playing their first game in the series as well. On Sunday Linköping and Vilmos Galló will hope to win their opening game.
