Brasov hires Kari Rauhanen as new head coach

After a six game losing streak it looked as if Brasov was back on track by winning last Friday at FTC and Sunday at Újpest but the shootout loss at Miskolc was the last straw for the management. Kjell Greg Lindqvist was fired after winning two out of the last nine games and has been replaced by Kari Rauhanen from Finland.

Rauhanen is 51 years old and hails from Tampere Finland, he got his coaching start with the Tappara youth teams.

In the early 2000s he was an assistant coach in the Mestis League (Finnish 2nd division) and later on moved on to become head coach. He spent the 2006-2007 season as a head coach in the Allsvenskan (Swedish 2nd division).

Rauhanen also has stops in Switzerland, Italy and Austria on his resume as well. Last season he took over at the Austrian 2nd division club EHC Lustenau after the previous coach Gary Prior was let go.

Some of the players that Rauhanen has coached in the past are former NHL players Greg Classen and Pavel Brendl as well as NHL draft picks Troy Riddle and Tuukka Pulliainen and Hungarian international forward János Vas.

Either way the management of Brasov are trying to right the ship and grab one of the four playoff spots in the MOL League.
