The work continues

After losing their third  game of their world championship preparation series and roster cuts Rich Chernomaz gave his players two and a half days off the team was back on the ice in the Tüskecsarnok Saturday afternoon.

The team had to be back at the Tüskecsarnok at 15:30 with the 31 players who are able to join. Csanád Erdély and the Sioux Falls Stampede were eliminated from the first round of the USHL playoffs, both him and János Vas will be able to join the team by mid week and could be on the roster when Hungary takes on Kazakhstan and the Russian ‘B’ team. Today they were on the ice for 100 minutes, Jánis Hári was not on the ice as he will be having an MRI done on his wrist on Sunday to see the full extent of his injury that he picked up in the first period of the 4-0 win over Austria.

Assistant coach Gergely Majoross: Csanád and Jankó both will be on the ice by Wednesday and we are waiting to see what is going on with Jancsi Hári, he doesn't believe that anything is broken but we will know more once the doctors have a better look at it. Other than this we are moving along fine, we will need to make some tough decisions which is good for us as a team. Once we play our final two games we will have a clear picture who fits together with whom and we can start to put the lines together.

Csanád Erdély: Unfortunately we were swept 3-0 by Tri-City who had finished in first place. I don’t think we have anything to feel bad about since we just snuck into the playoffs, we basically made it in after winning a “mini playoffs”. The team had about an 80% turnover from last years championship winning roster, we had a young team this year and we will have almost everyone back for next season. I am in a lucky situation that even though the club season is over I still have a chance to play for the national team.

János Vas: We play our last game of the season on Sunday, after which I will have a couple of days to rest and I will be joining the team on Wednesday.

András Benk: It was nice to have a couple of days off but after not having the skates on for a couple of days it is always hard to get back into the swing of things. Once we are through the first couple of drills everything is back to normal. It is nice to regenerate being around the family to see the wife and kids and then to come back full of energy. Usually after having a couple of days off the coaching staff would put us through a number of sprint drills but this time we were working on tactics.
