The group stage of the in house tournament of the men's senior team came to a close on Thursday afternoon.
As the roster was split into four teams for this first week of training camp the teams played each other twice with the score of the games and the fitness tests taken into consideration a final standings were calculated and the black team under the leadership of goalie coach Gary Clarke will face Tamás Sille’s white team for the gold medal with Gergely Majoross and the greens going up against Diego Scandella and the reds for the bronze medal.
After the two games tomorrow the coaching staff will sit down and evaluate what they saw this past week and make their roster cuts. The remaining players will have the weekend off with the traditional form of camp starting up on Monday.
There was only one injury of note as István Bartalis split his elbow open during the morning session, he had some stitches and was behind the bench next to Sille helping out the white team. He will have the weekend to recover, if it would have been game day he would have dressed he was kept out for precaution.
István Bartalis: We were leading against the greens in our morning game and they ended up tying the game up, after a faceoff my elbow pad slipped off as we went into the corner and when my legs got taken out from under me and I came down on my elbow I have a couple stitches now and that's about it. I was glad I could help the team win from behind in the afternoon.
Rich Chernomaz: It has been good to see that despite the ice time the guy have been getting and the intensity of the games the temp and the energy levels have not gone down. Overall I think the guys have not lost any conditioning, I was really impressed with the guys were competing and finishing checks. We have really got what we hoped when we put the tournament together, I have been impressed by the younger guys who have stepped up.
