The Hungarian U15 national team took part in four day international tournament over Easter weekend where they finished in 10 place out of over 20 teams.
The national team played 10 games in the four day span, twice playing three game in one day. The squad faced teams from Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Belarus, Latvia, Norway, Ukraine and Estonia. This gave the boys a chance to experience playing against a wide range of hockey styles.
On the first day the U15 boys took care of business against two Scandinavian teams, Skutskars from Sweden and one of the two KooKoo squads from Finland, in the third game of the day they came up short against the Zürich Lions from Switzerland.
The second they split the two games, against the well known Dinamo Minsk they were shutout but game back later in the day to beat the Latvian side Pardaugava.
Sunday brought a clean sweep against three Scandinavian clubs as Hungary beat KJT Haukat from Finland, shutout Norwegian club Strömsbö and beat the other KooKoo squad as well. This put the team in competition for places 9-12.
On Monday they beat the Estonian club Tallinn Vipers 5-0 to give them a shot at 9th place but came up short against Berkut Kiev 2-0. In the three loses that the team suffered they lost by a total of four goals, meaning that they were in competition against all of their opponents throughout the weekend.
Assistant coach Norbert Fekecs-“The boys had a great opportunity to learn as they faced stronger teams than they are normally used to. We try to get them used to facing stronger competition on a regular basis. This is when they are able to develop and to play under pressure. We played against Dinamo Minsk, ZSC Lions as well as Kiev, we were able to play close games against them and gain valuable experience against them.”
