
After going undefeated in the group stage and a shutout win in the semifinals the U16 Hungarian national team defeated the Vancouver T-Birds and were crowned champions of the Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament.
Hungary-Vancouver T-Birds 5-1
Glen Williamson and his staff continued to rotate their goalies as Levente Markus received the starting nod for the finals. Goalie coach Dávid Szuchánszkí had said that he was very satisfied with the play of all three of his goalies. The Vancouver T-Birds of the PCBHL were a team much like the others they faced and were the top team in the other group located in the division. Kristóf Rácz scored the only goal of the first period as Hungary took a 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes. The score stayed in the favor Hungary for most of the second, late in the period Vancouver scored to tie the game up at 1-1. With the game being tight through the first forty minutes things opened up in the final period as Hungary pulled away. There were two separate short scoring spurts, first Nátán Vértes found the back of the net and Márk Almási put Hungary up by two goals. Later in the period the duo struck again in the same order as Vértes made it 4-1 and Almási scored the fifth Hungarian goal to wrap up the gold medal. Almási finished the game with two goals and an assist.
