The U17 national team held a two day mini camp on the 20th and 21st at the Tüskecsarnok, assistant coach Szabolcs Fodor talk to icehockey.hu about what went on during the two days.
“In this camp we tried to work on things that related to the systems and tactics that we will be using, powerplay, penalty kill, breakouts, backchecking, pretty much everything except for defending, this went real well for these boys”
“Off the ice we had theoretical presentations that covered these topics as well, they had to write a test about what the coaching staff checked and they went over it with the individual player during the exit meetings. Csaba Máthé also had a presentation on mental preparations.”
“During this camp the we didn’t really emphasize the head to head play, we had so many players that we couldn't really have given everyone an equal chance, we stuck to the original plan for the camp. We had four ice sessions where we worked on the tactical elements”
The camp roster had 37 players which was made up of players born in 1999, we asked teh coach if there was a difference at all between them and the top half of the U18 age group, player born in 1998.
“There is always a chance that the a younger player beats at an older one to make the final world championship roster. Right now I can’t really say how many of the 1999 class can make the roster but there will be some young ones that will turn some heads.”
