
The outstanding performance Dubica continued for the U18 team at the Olympic Hopefuls tournament as they defeated the neighbors to the north 7-0.
“We started the game well and we dominated the game from start to finish as most of the action happened in the opponent's third” said goalie coach Csaba Máthé after the game. Head coach Glen Williamson and Máthé decided to give Martin Szeles the starting nod in net.
The Hungarian U18 team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first twenty minutes against the Slovak U16 team. In the second period Hungary opened up even more on their lead.
“The boys plead some real power hockey, they were hitting a lot, we told them to crash the net, which they did almost perfectly, which gave us the 3-0 lead in the first period.” said Máthé. “In the second period they followed the coaching staff’s instructions and they did what we asked of them. They competed as a team and they were able to score two-two goals in the second and third periods.”
The Hungarian team scored two shorthanded goals to go with their one power play goal, Szeles pitched a shutout between the pipes. Szeles did have to make a few saves on a break away and also on a couple of two on ones.
The seven Hungarian goals were scored by six different players, Bence Szabó lead all scorers with two, also lighting the lamp was Patrik Kiss, Armand Szlépák, Miklós Gyurgyev, Renátó Tóth and Barnabás Majoross.
