After the first rest day the Hungarian U18 team was back on the ice and looking to stay undefeated as they took on host team Italy.
As expected head coach Glen Williamson went back to Martin Szeles between the pipes with Dávid Kovács as the backup.
Hungary came out of the gates strong as they had a number of scoring chances. Ákos Nagy scored in the opening minutes of the game with a shot from the right faceoff circle. Just before the midway point of the period Hungary doubled their lead lead when Donát Szita put a rebound home from the doorstep. In the closing minutes Italy cut the Hungarian lead in half, however before the period was out there was a scramble in front of the Italian net where an Andor Péter shot trickled through for the third Hungarian goal of the period.
In the second period Italy was not able to close the score against Hungary. The only power play of the period belonged to Italy who was not able to capitalize on it. At just about the midway point of the game Brúnó Kreisz scored from high in the slot to make it 4-1.
Hungary really pulled away in the final twenty minutes of the game. Márk Almási scored from the bottom of the left faceoff circle and 23 seconds later Bálint Horváth made it 6-1 for Hungary, at this point Italy switched goalies. In the closing minutes of the game Marcell Révész scored high glove side as he used an Italian defender as a screen. With the win Hungary stayed undefeated and remains in the hunt for the gold medal.
Donát Szita was named player of the game for Hungary.
Glen Williamson: The first period we played really well, we kind of back off in the second period, we were not really concentrating but everything was back in the third period. This group of guys are mental tough and they came out and played tough in the third period. We had great goaltending and we pulled away in the third. We have been running four balanced lines where everyone played great defence and we want everyone to score, all four lines play in every opportunity on the ice.
