The Olympic Hopefuls tournament started well for Hungary as they beat host country Poland 5-4.
“We played an an uptempo game against a good Polish team” said assistant coach András Horváth “we were a step ahead of them from start to finish and we either lead or were tied with them, we never relinquished the lead.”
Hungary scored first but Poland managed to tie up the game at 1-1, the coaching staff and the team took a 3-1 lead into the locker room at the end of the second period.
The last period of the game had a real goal barrage, everytiem Poland cut into the Hungarian lead, Hungary managed to get the goal back. Poland cut it to 3-2, but that only last about half a minute as Hungary scored to get the two goal lead back. Hungary made it 5-3, but with under five minutes left Poland managed to slipped a fourth goal past Boldizsár Györi.
The game did have one sad note as Fehérvár AV19 forward Andor Péter suffered broken arm just above the wrist, he will be out 4-6 weeks.
“We played a good game but of course we will be looking at what we can improve upon. We took too many penalties, we need to play more disciplined in the future, and we need to be tougher in the one on one situations.” said Horváth “before our game Austria played against the Slovak U16 team, with Austria winning 3-2 in faced paced game as well, we will need to be prepared for this as well.
