Hungary opened the Division 1/A World Championships against the top team in the tournament, Denmark.
A couple days before the tournament Hungary lost to Denmark 2-0, this time around it was somewhat different. Head coach Glen Williamson gave Gergely Bors the start in goal, missing from the lineup because of injuries was defenceman Zsombor Garáth and forward Bálint Horváth.
It didn't take long for Denmark to take the lead as William Boysen scored before the two minute mark of the game to make it 1-0. Tobias Ladehoff scored on the power play and Alexander True scored as well to make it 3-0 before Hungary was able to score late in the first period. Hungary was on a two man advantage late in the period when Mártin Sági set up Máté Gáspár for the goal.
Denmark offense really took off in the second period as they scored three equal strength goals. In the final period True scored his second goal of the night on a power play in the last minute of the period.
In the third period with the game in the bad Denmark took their foot off the pedal a bit, but they still managed to score a twice in the final period to win 9-1. Bors played the full ninety minutes of the game and faced 48 shots.
Coaches Corner
Glen Williamson-”It was a great game for use in that we have played the best team in the group and now we know that what it is like to play here. When we play against team like this we are able to learn a lot. The score wasn't relevant but our guys didn't give up despite the score.”
Martin Struzinski-”Overall I’m happy with the way that our team played however we made mistakes that we usually don’t. We didn't stick to the game plan completely, however it is never easy to play against the host nation at the world championships. I think that there is still room for improvement.”
View from the Ice
Bence Stipsicz- “The team was not ready for the pace of the game at this level, we needed a game to adjust, we are not used to this pace at our club teams. I think we still have to approve, however I think that we will play better in the future games.”
