Glen Williamson and the U18 Hungarian national team took on Poland in the opening game of the Olympic Hopefuls Tournament Hungary.
The coaching staff decided to give the start in net to Olivér Galló as Martin Szeles was the backup goalie with Balázs Tóth being the only scratched player from the lineup. Both teams had scoring chances. Interestingly enough both teams had 4 penalty minutes but both times they happened to be offsetting. Zsolt Szalma had scoring chance in the second half of the period but in the end neither team managed to score.
Poland struck first in the opening minutes of the second period off of a shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle bounced in off of the post. Ten seconds later Hungary tied it up as András Tóth put home a rebound off of a Nátán Vértes shot. Later in the period Hungary convert a 5 on 3 power play when Bálint Pákozdi closed out a nice tic tac toe play to bang home the puck and give Hungary a 2-1 lead.
In the early part of the third period Poland tied it up on a power play goal after Hungary was not able to clear the bouncing puck. Later in the period Hungary took back the lead when Szalma sprang Vértes who skated in on a breakaway and scored a shorthanded goal. Ten seconds later Poland tied the game again off of a shot from the left faceoff circle that squeaked under the arm of Galló. The game stayed locked at 3-3 for the rest of the game. In the overtime period the winning goal wasn't scored until the final minute when András Molnár scored off of a pass from Pákozdi.
