
Instead of having one strong team the U18 national team had to be split into two squads this week at the 4 Nations tournament in Újpest this past week.
At the last minute Belarus had to drop out because of visa problems, joining Ukraine and Slovan Bratislava was two Hungarian U18 teams. Glen Williamson and his staff were originally going to cut the training camp roster down to one squad for the tournament but in the end they split the team into two even squads, the Reds and the Whites. Glen Williamson was not behind the bench for either team, Bence Svasznek and Rastislav Ondrejcik switched back and forth between the two Hungarian squads.
On the opening day the Whites played a close game against Slovan as they had a 3-2 lead deep into the third period but were not able to hold on for the end result in a 4-3 loss, Kristóf Dobos played the full 60 minutes in goal, Márton Sági, Zsombor Kiss and István Szűcs scored the three Hungarian goals The Reds had a harder time as they took on Ukraine who dominated from start to finish with the help of a five goal second period in the 8-1 win. Dániel Boros had the lone Hungarian goal and János Gadácsi started in net.
On Monday both teams played two games with inter squad game being the first game of the day. This time Péter Nagy started in net for the Whites and Bence Kiss for the Reds, the Reds won 6-2 after a three goal first period. In their second game of the day the the Whites played a close one goal game but Ukraine managed to score an empty netter to make the final 4-2, Nagy started in goal for the second game in a row with Ákos Nagy Patrik Kiss scoring the two goals. The Reds had a similar game where it was close but ended up losing by two because of an empty netter. Slovan had a 4-0 lead but Hungary was able to come back to 4-3 before losing 5-3, Gadácsi was between the pipes, Viktor Török, Bence Stipsicz and Zoltán Nagy were the goalscorers.
The two Hungarian teams faced off against each other again for third place, this time around it was a lot closer as the Reds won in a shootout. The White had a 3-2 lead going into the third period but the Reds tied it up with less then three minutes left on a Török goal, Szita had the game winning shot. Kristóf Dobos was the starting goalie for the Whites and Bence Kiss for the Reds.
