After already capturing the gold medal the previous match day with a win against Japan Hungary looked to close out the World Championships with an undefeated record.

Glen Williamson had Martin Szeles in net, Márk Almási was also back in the lineup after sitting out the previous game with an injury.
Hungary jumped out to a lead 79 seconds into the game when team captain Donát Szita found the back of the net. Minutes later Szita scored his second of the period to double the Hungarian lead, however before the period was out Slovenia managed to tie the game up with two goals in the later part of the period.
In the early part of the second period Hungary took back the lead as Dávid Molnár score to make it 3-2. Just at the halfway point of the game Glen Williamson switched goalies as Dávid Kovács came in for Martin Szeles, seconds later Slovenia tied the game up on a power play goal. The third period started just like the first two with goals being scored early in the period. Patrik Kiss put Hungary up 4-3, and again Slovenia tied it up, this time with less than five minutes left. In the closing seconds of the game Bálint Horváth skated in through the Slovenian zone made a drop pass to Patrik Kiss who put into the back of the net for the winning goal. Slovenia hit the post with four seconds left in the game to give the Hungarian fans a late scare.
