The Hungarian U20 opens up the first training camp of the year this coming Monday, August 1st in preparation for their match against the United States on Thursday, August 4th.
There will be a bit of a change to the usual U20 coaching staff as head coach Rich Chernomaz will not be in attendance because a scheduling conflict. The USA U18 national team will be playing the Hungarian squad as they prepare for the prestiges Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament. USA hockey had approached the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation about playing this match after the federation had already set up the schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season, thus creating a scheduling conflict for Head Coach Rich Chernomaz which will prevent him from being in attendance. However he will be back with the team for the tournament in Sweden at the end of the month
Taking the reigns will be the coaching duo of Bence Svasznek and Dávid Kiss, the two assistant coaches from last years coaching staff and they will remain as Chernomaz’s two assistants. With the 99 players called into the camp the roster will be split into four teams and there will be a number of guest coaches in attendance who will be in charge of the four squads. After four scrimmages on Monday the roster will be trimmed to 40 skaters and 4 goalies with the next round of cuts coming on Tuesday.
