After a tough loss in the U20 Super Challenge to Norway, the Hungarian junior team was back on the ice against Riga.
Head coach Rich Chernomaz gave Gergely Bor the start in net with Péter Nagy serving as the backup. Also getting into the lineup was Nándor Fejes, Bálint Villás, Dávid Jancsó, Barnabás Majoross and Zoltán Nagy. Scratched were Kristóf Dobos, Márk Vas, Álmosi Oroszi, Zoltán Erdei, RenátóTóth and Martin Sági
The first period started off with both teams exchanging penalties, Hungary also managed to kill their second short handed situation. After not being able to score on their first power play Hungary made it 1-0 when Ákos Szigeti scored from high in the slot, Bálint Horváth and Patrik Kiss got the assists. Hungary took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Hungary doubled the lead in the first minute of the second period when Szigeti scored his second goal of the game off of a pass by Dávid Molnár. Later in the period Riga cut the lead in half with a one timer from close range.
The teams kept up the battle in the third period, Hungary started to get visibly tired. In the 49th minute Riga scored on a breakaway to tie the game up at 2-2. The score remained deadlocked at 2-2. After a scoreless overtime the game went to a shoot out where the first three shooters missed for both teams, unfortunately the fourth shooter missed for Hungary and Riga scored for the overtime win.
