The Hungarian U20 team took on USA U18 in an exhibition game as the Americans were preparing for their participation in the prestigious Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament later in the month.
With head coach Rich Chernomaz unable to be behind the bench for the game because of a previous engagement the duo of Bence Svasznek and Dávid Kiss were in charge with Viktor Tokaji rounding out the coaching staff for the game.
Getting the start in net and playing the opening period was Bence Kiss. The United States took the early lead in the game when Sasha Chmelevski put the puck past Kiss.
For the second period Martin Szeles took the place of Bence Kiss in net. Just about five minutes into the period Hungary tied the game up when Patrik Kiss flipped a rebound past the American goalie. Just at the midway point of the game the United States also switch goalies as Cayden Primeau was replaced by Keith Petruzelli. The United States took back the lead late in the second period with just under five minutes left in the period when Ryan Poehing nicely set up Brannon McManus who put the puck into the empty net.
For the third period Hungary went with Máté Garbacz as all three goalies played a period as planned. In the second period of play Poehing put USA up by two goalies as he went short side under the goalies arm. Later in the period with Hungary on the power play Mick Messner jumped on a loose puck, skated in and slipped the puck through the legs of Garbacz to make it 4-1.
The U.S. held on to the 4-1 win Péter Andor was named the best player from Hungary with Ryan Poehling being named the best player of
