Volán Opening Weekend

Fehérvár started their EBEL season on the road on Friday at Klagenfurt and followed that up with Sunday night home opener, playing host to Innsbruck.

KAC-Volán 1-3

Head coach Rob Pallin did not have a full roster at his disposal as István Bartalis is out for the next couple of months and Andrew Sarauer reinjured his shoulder in the preseason but Frank Banham was back in the lineup. Miklós Rajna started in net for the first game of the season but Pallin plans on using both Rajan and Hetényi for the first part of the season. Fehérvár scored early when Ladislav Sikorcin continued where he left off in the the Gábor Ocskay memorial tournament, when he took a feed from Tihamér Becze from behind the net and lifted past the goalie. Klagenfurt tied it up in the opening minute of the second period, the teams stayed locked at 1-1 until the 20 year old with the soft hands, Tamás Sárpátki decided to do something about it. With just under ten minutes left in the game Sárpátki jumped on a loose puck and scored on a break away. Sikorcin shut the door on the home team Klagenfurt with an empty net goal and his second of the night.

Volán-HCI 1-0

After having a successful opening win on the road Rob Pallin and his team hoped to have the same success on home ice. Arnold Varga picked up an injury against Klagenfurt, taking his place in the roster was Attila Reiter, getting the start in net for Fehérvár was Zoltán Hetényi. Innsbruck was kind enough to give Volán a two man advantage that, Sikorcin cashed in as he continued his early season hot streak. The teams played a scoreless middle twenty minutes despite the period filled with penalties for both teams. In the third period HCI looked to be going to the penalty box more often than the home team Volán. In the end  Zoltán Hetényi stood tall and pitched a shutout, it’s safe to say Hetényi is back.

COACHES' CORNER

Rob PallinOur goal is to play better defence this year, the goaltending was great however the conditions were horrible, but i will always take three points. Its great that we only had 1 goal in two games. Our PK was great, but we miss Sarauer from our power play we miss his presence and calmness. Our next five games are really tough, it is very difficult to pick up points from anyone in this league.
