Volán wins EBJL

The Austrian based Erste Bank Junior League title came down to two Hungarian teams, MAC Budapest and Fehérvár AV19.  Both teams won their respective groups and made it to the finals of a best of three.

MAC-AV19 3-4
In the opening game of the series Boldizsár Győri  got the start in net for MAC with Martin Szeles defending the Fehérvár net. Árpád Lőczi scored the only goal of the first period as MAC went up 1-0. In the second period Bruno Kreisz doubled the lead off of a pass from Ákos Szigeti. Fehérvár regrouped during the second break as they scored on the first shift of the third period off of a goal by Donát Szita. Minutes later Miklós Gyurgyev tied it up at 2-2 however 35 seconds later Barna Majoross put MAC back up by one. Later in the period Ákos Nagy was the hero as he tied the game up in the 57th minute and scored the game winner with less than a minute left.

AV19-MAC 6-9
For game two Fehérvár stuck with Szeles in net however MAC had switched to Kristóf Nagy to defend the cage. Ákos Nagy continued where he left off as he scored in the first minute of the game. Goals by Majoross and Szigeti in the first half of the period gave MAC a one goal lead,  Szita tied it up for the home team but two MAC goals by Dávid Sebestyén and Richárd Kedves put the visitors up by two goals after the first period. In the second period MAC scored twice in under a minute to go up 6-2 on goals by Erik Csicsák and Kreisz. Arnold Buzás scored to get Volán back within three goals but a late Antonio Sarcia scored late in the period to make it 7-3. Fehérvár came out for the third period with Bendegúz Pinczés in net in the place of Szeles. Benedek Madácsi scored the fourth Volán goal and five minutes later Buzás made it a two goal game when he scored on the power play. Majoross and Lőczi scored the 8th and 9th goals for MAC with Hunor Császár capping off the high scoring game with the sixth Volán goal.

MAC-AV19 4-5 OT
After being pulled in game two Szeles was back in net with MAC going back to game one starter Győri. The first goal in the third and deciding game was not scored until late in the first period coming off of the stick of Lőczi. In the second period Gyurgyev tied the game up 1-1. Later in the second period Volán put there foot on the gas as they pulled away with three more goals in only a matter of minutes. Bence Makovics, Ákos Nagy and Ákos Mihály all scoring even strength goals to go up 4-1 in the first half of the game. In the third period  Sebestyén made it a two goal game, less than two minutes later Sebestyén struck again with his second power play goal of the game to make it a one goal game. With 14 seconds left in the game and on the two man advantage and with the goalie pulled Majoross scored to send the game into overtime. In the tenth minute of the extra period Nagy scored his second goal of the game for Fehérvár to give them the Austrian U18 title.

Fehérvár head coach Dávid Kiss: This is what we expected, we knew that MAC is a great team and for years these two teams have been battling for years and they know each others. With drive and a little bit of luck was the difference today.

Fehérvár defenceman Botond Erdély: We started great and the team stuck together, our coaches told us before over time that this was part of the deal and we knew what was were getting ourselves into.

MAC defenceman Nándor Fejes: It was a very close game and we did everything that we could to try to win the game. Our coach told us during the second intermission that this was our game and that he believes in us.
