Hungary opened up the A-Pool World Championships win a 4-1 closely contested loss to Slovakia. In general the players were happy with their performance.

Rich Chernomaz: Since the last time we played in the A-Pool Hungary has not really played against this high caliber of opponents. We started the game nervous and we were able to raise our level of game after our tieing goal. Slovakia defended very well and were excellent on the counter attack. We played well in the third period but we did not take advantage of our scoring chances. I was pleasantly surprised by the way we played against the eighth ranked team in the world.
Zdeno Ciger: For us it was important that we win our opening game of the tournament. We were expecting a hungry and motivated team that was very well prepared. We were able to score and control the game even though we took more penalties than we should have.

Zsombor Garát: I really had a good time playing today, the best moment was when we came out onto the ice in front of so many fans and the way they received us. The pace of the game was fast and we played against players that maybe wouldn't have ever in our life.

Bence Szirányi: We could tell from the start of the game that Slovakia would not take us lightly, we is something that we knew that would happen as they were really interested in us and scouted us. I think we left everything on the ice, we played slow at the start but then we picked it up as the game went on.

András Benk: I think we played a respectable game but unfortunately we couldn’t get more out of this game. We had power play opportunities when we were down by two but we were not able to convert on them. We should have played better in front of the net to stir some trouble.

Vilmos Galló: Bartalis took the puck the length of the ice down behind the goal for a wrap around, I was there for the rebound that went off of Banham’s skate and in. We came out for the third period thinking we have nothing to lose, we tried to do everything, the fans were a lot of help for us, they gave us energy.
