"We need to become a disciplined team"

With the first week of the national team camp coming to an end Rich Chernomaz and his staff made the first roster cuts after the in house tournament. Head coach Chernomaz answered some questions about what he saw during this past week.

During the week you had mentioned that you were very happy with the in house tournament because it gave you a chance to really look at more players than usual. After you made the cuts a number of younger players are still on the roster.

The first evaluation step were these scrimmages and the second one will be the international friendlies that we will be playing starting next weekend. It is too early to think about what chances these younger players have of making the world championship roster. The international matches will answer those questions.

Péter Vincze who made last years world championships roster is a young player - why was he already cut?

We had a rating system for the players and unfortunately for Péter he had a low score and he just didn't get much accomplished during the week. We take this all with a grain of salt as he has had opportunities in the past but some of the younger guys pushed really hard and were more effective and it is now their opportunity to show what they can do. Each camp is a fresh start for all the guys and this time it was not Péter’s chance.

What is the situation with the injured players?

Frankie will be back on the ice next week, with Mike as well, Kóger is still 7-10-14 days out. The longer he stays out that hurts his chances of making the final roster because we will have 7 games in 10 nights and we do not want to bring someone that is not a 100%. But he has been working a lot with Sándor Puskás to keep his conditioning level up. Hopefully he will back in time.

What about the guys who have not been back because of their club commitments?

János Hári will be here on Monday, he had to take care of things back in Sweden, and János Vas will be back around the 22nd of April. Csanád Erdély will be in camp if they make the playoffs and lose in the first round.

What will you be working on next week?

A lot of individual concepts 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3 getting work done down low, getting disciplined with the sticks. In Norway we took the most penalties and the guys were not used to this speed but we still need to be disciplined.
