We will be pushed hard

2016.04.12. 21:45 |

The preparation for the world championships continued on Tuesday as the coaching staff has started to bring down the hammer.
The national team was through two on ice sessions at the Tüskecsarnok on Tuesday, a 100 minute session before noon and a 90 minute one during the afternoon.
For the morning session the players were split into two groups, as one was on the ice the other one was in the gym being put through a number of exercise by strength and conditioning coach Sándor Puskás. After 45 minutes the two groups switched. After lunch a bit of relaxation the coaching staff put the players through a 90 minute grueling practice, of which a couple of players talked about.

Bence Szirányi: The coaching staff already let us know that we will be pushed hard the first couple of weeks of camp and we should not be holding anything back because we are not preparing for the exhibition games but for the world championships. This is why we were split into two groups in the morning for 40-45 sessions on the ice. During the afternoon we worked more on tactical elements of the game that we need to know.
After taking a couple days off it is always hard to get the legs working again, this is why we have been doing sprints at the end of practice, which Cherno really likes to do. We had done this in 2013 when Volán fell out of the EBEL playoffs early and I would come down from Miskolc where I was playing at the time to join in on the sessions. This sprint program is made up of 12-13 exercises, and so far we have only completed about six of them so we are about halfway through but the staff had mentioned this to us already before hand, to simulate situations where we have to be able to think when we are dead tired.”

Miklós Rajna: My ankle heeled as planned, I was able to rest it for a couple of weeks, I had been playing with this issue since January however I did not want this to have a negative impact on the world championships.
I had not played since the world championships so it was a bit hard to get back into the swing of things on Monday. I feel myself getting my strength back after the time off.
We are working on getting better on our defesive zone as well as getting our conditioning up as well. We are where we usually are at this time of camp, and the team is also slowly coming together.

István Terbócs: The morning 45 minute session wasn't as hard but everyone was really working, this was not as nearly as intense as the practice session this afternoon. We were really worked over during the fitness session by Sanyi. In the afternoon we worked on tactics and faceoff situations, where to be after a won or a lost faceoff. We worked on our game in the defensive end as well.
