Week 11 Round Up

After playing against UTE and DAB a tired Brasov team traveled north to Slovakia to play one of the top teams in the league. In a penalty riddled game there was surprisingly no power play goals.
After a scoreless first half of the game Nové Zámky grinded down the visitors until Marek Dubec was able to put the puck past Patrik Polc. In the span of just over two minutes the home side put the puck into the cage three more times to expand the lead to 4-0, Martin Frolik, Albin Podstavek and Ondrej Stefanka registered the three goals.
The third period only produced one goal which went to Patrik Korytko.
UTE-DAB.Docler 1-7
The home team ran into a buzz saw in a game that started slow but ended in a pounding.
DAB.Docler scored a goal in each of the first two periods, Attila Pavuk opened things up and Balázs Ladányi doubled the lead for the visitors. Balázs Somogyi made it 3-0 but Újpest countered with Mikael Hamann, David Coleman said “it was basically a 2 on 0 where I waited for the right time to make the pass”. Imre Peterdi made it 4-1 with a shorthanded goal, that’s when the bottom fell out as DAB managed to score three more in the period.
Tamás Gröschl, Richárd Nagy and Ladányi had the three goals with the last one being a beauty where the Ladányi put his stick into a shot in the slot form the blue line by Peter Huba that was redirected for a beautiful goal.
Miskolc-Csíkszereda 1-2
Csíkeszereda traveled to Miskolc in an effort to stay with the lead pack in the standings. The game ended up being a very low scoring game compared to the average MOL League match where the winning team has to score at least four goals.
The first goal of the game was not scored until 10 seconds before the halfway point at 29:50 when Vaclav Novak was able to put the puck past Dávid Gyenes, the visiting squad doubled their lead when István Nagy set up Tihamér Becze for the even strength goal.
The only goal in the third period came on the power play when Jordan Knox and Tyler Metcalfe set up Juraj Faith for the score, with under a minute left Miskolc pulled their keeper for the extra attacker but the score stayed as the visitors got a rare road win.
Nové Zámky-Miskolc 4-1
Despite being the road team Miskolc jumped out to a lead on a Tyler Metcalfe goal but the home team tied it up with less than a minute to go in the period thanks to Marek Uram. An Albin Podstavek goal capitalized a Nové Zámky power play and a 2-1 lead, Uram scored his scored his second of the game to give his team a 2 goal lead. Martin Uhnák scored the fourth and final goal of the game.
However, in the last 10 minutes of the game things got a bit out of hand as 51 penalty minutes were spread amongst the two teams.
UTE-FTC 2-3
It was a hockey night in Budapest, despite the teams not being near each other when looking at the points both teams were ready to play a hard match.
Artyom Vaszjunyin put the puck on the stick of Antti Ojanen who skated in front of the net and slipped the puck past József Pleszkán. Fradi doubled their lead right before the end of the period on a power play goal, Lajos Tőkési took a slap shot from just inside the blue line from in front of the net that Pleszkán was able to save, however, he could not control the rebound and Gergely Borbás flipped the puck past the outreached UTE keeper. UTE got one back at 34:29 when Roscoe Sweeney fed the puck from behind the net to Róbert Dömötör in the slot who fired the puck past Krisztián Budai.
In the third period FTC got back the two goal lead when Borbás scored his second of the night as he put a Zoltán Pál rebound in the back of the cage. UTE again came back within one when Lörinc Farkas picked up the puck in his own zone, slalomed through to the attacking zone with two FTC defenders on him and sniped the puck past Budai. Újpest pulled their goalie in an effort to tie the game but the score stayed 3-2.
UTE coach János Ancsin said after the game “we had the advantage throughout the game we just need to capitalize on our chances”.
FTC-Nové Zámky 5-2
After a scoreless first period Norbert Dancsfalvi skated down the right wing cut in front of the net and slipped the puck past Pavel Krajcovic for the 1-0 at 23:52. Four minutes later Michal Siska took a pass from Erik Weissmann and wanted to dump the puck around the boards but it caught a skate went past Krisztián Budai for the tieing goal. Later in the period Ondrej Stefanka fired the puck from the right faceoff circle that Budai saved but the backspin made the puck go up in the air and slide down Budai's back for the 2-1 lead. The third period was all Fradi, Mikael Potila and Arnold Feil scored two quick goals in the early part of the period and Ákos Berta closed the door on Nové Zámky by scoring two on his own, one garbage goal from a scrum in front of the visiting net and one shorthanded on a nice breakaway.
Ferencváros was clearly happy with the outcome coach Tamás Dobos said “ we played great and very disciplined, we were able to save some energy and then come back strong in the third period for the win.”
On the other side Ladislav Lubina was not so ecstatic so say the least “we didn’t play great here seven days ago and now we have played even worse, the players did not play well and did not follow the tactics that we drew up, we can't win if we play like this.”
Miskolc-UTE 5-2
As expected Miskolc did not have any real problems during this game.
Dezső Raczanov opened up the scoring at the 10:16 mark, in the second period Jordan Knox and Juraj Faith made the lead larger with both of them scoring even strength goals. Újpest was able to get the game back within one in a span of less than one minute when Richárd Reiter and Csaba Virág both scored even strength goals. Balázs Láda crushed the hopes of the visiting squad as he scored 9 seconds after UTE made it a one goal game. Matt Boyle converted a power play opportunity to shut the door on UTE.
Csíkszereda-Brasov 5-4
Csíkszereda looked to gain ground on their rivals and the rest of the pack in front of them in the standing in this Transylvanian derby.
Visiting Brasov came to play and they showed this by scoring in the first minute of play as a penalty shot was awarded and Zsolt Molnár converted it by putting the puck past Gellért Ruczuj. Evgenii Pysarenko set up Zsolt Mastaleriu for a powerplay goal to double their lead. Ottó Bíró got the home team on the scoreboard 10:12 into the game, a Szabolcs Szűcs goal right at the halfway point locked the teams even at 2-2. Csíkszereda took their first lead of the game as they also had a penalty shot awarded that Tihamér Becze took advantage of and put the puck in the cage past Patrik Polc.
Less than a minute into the third period the home team got their third unanswered goal of the game when Marek Curilla scored to made it 4-2. The last 113 second of the match became real interesting as Juhamatti Hietamäki scored at 58:07, with Brasov being down by one they pulled their goalie. Ede Mihály was able to dump the puck in the empty net and restore the two goal lead. However, Brasov still scored with 12 seconds left in the game as Pysarenko set up Roberto Gliga for the team’s fourth goal of the game.
