
Nové Zámky-UTE 6-1
The early news out of Újpest this season is that it is going to be a long season. Lukas Ruzicka scored early to put the home team up but UTE was able tie it up on a David Coleman power play goal. From the 17th minute on it was all Nové Zámky with five unanswered goals by Erik Caladi, Albin Podstavek, Pavel Kowalczyk, Marek Uram and Marek Dubec.
DAB-Csíkszereda 10-2
Csíkszereda's season has started the way they wanted it to but they still ran into a surprise shellacking to the defending champions. The Steel Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead when Henrich Habornik and Nikandrosz Galanisz scored in the first period with Richárd Nagy and Balázs Ladányi in the second. Everything looked to smooth out when the visiting side switched goalies. Csíkszereda pulled within two on a pair of goals by Attila Góga. The wheels permanently fell off for the visiting squad when DAB scored 6 in the last eight minutes of the game! Nagy had his second of the game with Tamás Gröschl registering a straight hat trick, Ákos Kiss and Tamás Erdélyi closed out the scoring.
FTC-Brasov 4-3 (OT)
The lone match played in the capital was the most exciting one of the night. FTC scored first when Dusan Sijka had an empty netter basically when taped in a smart pass from Antti Ojanen. Brasov responded on a Martin Saluga goal to close out the first period all tied up at one. Two minutes in Juha Hietamäki scored a PPG to give the Transylvanian club thier first lead of the night, ten minutes later Ojanen added a goal to even things up at 2. Less than a minute into the 3rd period Brasov scored their third of the match on an awkward goal where Krisztián Budai made the initial save and deflected the puck onto the back boards. The puck bounced high back off the glass and rolled down Budai's back and landed right on the goal line - after a scrum for the puck Josh Bonar slid the puck into the net for the lead. Less than a minute later Norbert Dancsfalvi evened it up at three. Teams stayed deadlocked at 3 despite Brasov playing the last two minutes with a 5 on 3 advantage. The penalty kill has been FTC's weakness all season, the night before against Csíkszereda all the goals were let in on shorthanded. Zsolt Wéber said after the game that each line sat down together before the match and discussed who had to do what on the PK. With 70 seconds left in OT István Mestyán beat Patrik Polc for the winning goal and giving the home club 2 out of the possible 3 points.
Miskolc-UTE 2-1 (OT)
This match was scoreless for a long time until UTE broke the deadlock at the 36:52 mark of the match thorugh Péter Németh. UTE pulled off the rest of the second with the 1-0 lead. Miskolc was able to pull even on a Juraj Faith PPG. With the game going to overtime Újpest had captured their first point of the season and were hoping for more in the the extra time, but their luck ran out with about half a minute left in OT when Jordan Knox was able to net the winner. According to Miskolc coach Travis Young UTE's keeper József Pleszkán played lights out.
Csíkszereda-Nové Zámky 4-1
After being embarrassed on the road Csíkszereda went home determined that the DAB-game was just a bit of a road bump. Ede Mihály scored to put the home team up 1-0, the score stayed this way for much of the match until about the last 10 minutes when Vacláv Novák setup Tihamér Becze for the goal which doubled the lead. Tamás Farkas scored to make it 3-0, Nové Zámky pulled their keeper in an effort to get back at it but Tamás Biró scored in the empty net. Marek Dubec scored the lone goal for the visitors with under a minute to go.
FTC-DAB 2-4
After the first couple of games Balázs Ladányi of DAB said the team has finally started to click and that was evident in this win. The visiting team opened up the scoring on a Balázs Somogyi goal, the home team came back when one of the three Finns on Fradi Anti Ojanen scored. FTC wasn't able to keep it 1-1 because Henrich Jabornik beat Michal Meravy for a PPG and the 2-1 lead. The second period was all DAB, Somogyi scored his second of the game and Ladányi scored on a beauty from almost a 0% angle from a pass by Tamás Gröschl. The Ladányi, Gröschl, Imre Peterdi line looked great anyone could see that is was not their first time playing together. The third period brought some excitement to the game when Dávid Horváth was able to pull the home team within two but they couldn't finish the job. DAB' coach Stephan Lundh said they were a bit flat in the last period but the goalie Peter Sevela played great.
Miskolc-FTC 5-4 (OT)
After losing a hard game at home on Friday night FTC was at it again on the road at Miskolc which promised to be a tough match-up. The Polar Bears were out to get revenge after getting a whipping from Fradi the previous time out. Dusan Sijka opened the scoring for the visitors but with a Vladimir Dubek goal Miskolc was able to close out the first period all even. WIth two Tyler Metcalfe goals Miskolc was able to have a two score cushion. Sijka's second goal brought the Green Eagles back within one. Andreas Lindquist completed the comeback for Fradi. Csanád Fodor took a Mikael Potila pass and put it past Dávid Gyenes to put the visitors up 4-3 with nine minutes left to play. Jordan Knox scored to send the match into overtime. Metcalfe completed his hat trick to win the game.
DAB-Docler-UTE 6-0
Dunaújváros took care of the purple and white club from Budapest easily. After a scoreless first period the visitors were looking to pick up points as they did on the road on Friday night at Miskolc. A Balázs Ladányi goal that was set up by Henrich Jabornik broke the deadlock, this was followed soon after by an Ákos Kiss goal. The veteran DAB line closed out the scoring in the period when both Imre Peterdi and Tamás Gröschl joined their linemate Ladányi on the scoring sheet. Kiss had his second goal in the game very early in the third, new signing Lubomir Hurtaj had the sixth goal of the match.
Brasov-Nové Zámky 9-5
The closing match of the game week had a high scoring back and forth play that was worth the price of admission for the home fans. Erik Caladi opened up the scoring for Nové Zámky but Josh Bonar scored to close out the low scoring first period at 1-1. The visitors took the lead back 19 seconds into the second period on a Gergő Nagy score, but Martin Saluga had the next two goals to but Brasov back up by one at 3-2. Marek Dubec brought it even at three, Róbert Péter's shorthanded and Bonar's PP goals gave Brasov a two goal lead. Nagy's second goal of the night opened the third and had Nové Zámky back within one but that was the closest the visiting squad would get. The Transylvanians answered back with two goals, Péter's second of the game and Juha Hietamäki's goal made it 7-4. Patrik Korytko scored Nové Zámky's last of the night and Bonar had another two before the match ended. Josh Bonar finished the night with an impressive 4 goals and 1 assist.
