FTC-UTE 6-1
The first Budapest derby of the season was relatively one sided and mild mannered. A very fast first period closed with FTC up 1-0 on a Gábor Kiss powerplay goal, the period itself only just over 25 minutes of real time. In the second period the home team extended their lead to three when Gergely Borbás took a pass from Ákos Berta and put the puck past the UTE keeper József Pleszkán and a minute and a half later Andreas Lindquist scored on the man advantage. After some nice stick handling by both Kiss and Zoltán Pál, Mikael Potila scored a rocket of a goal from the top of the right faceoff circle to make it 4-0.
UTE was able to get one back with Ádám Fekti scoring and Lőrinc Farkas getting the helper. In an interesting move Újpest pulled their keeper at 53:56 when Pál was sitting in the sin bin with a 2+2. Unfortunately this backfired when Potila had his second goal of the night when he put the puck into the empty net from two meters out. Anti Ojanen scored a shorthander to set the final score.
After the match UTE forward David Coleman said that after games like this you just have to just look forward to the next game and learn from the mistakes.
Brasov-Csíkszereda 3-1
The visiting club looked to get back at Brasov for their season opening home loss in the second Transylvanian derby of the season. A much improved home side took a 1-0 lead on a Magor Petres goal, Vacláv Novák pulled the Csíkszereda club even on a nice SHG then Imre János broke the deadlock with an even strength goal. With 19 seconds left the visiting club pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but Roberto Gliga scored with one second left as the Wolves have taken the first two matches between their Transylvanian rivals.
Nové Zámky-UTE 4-1
The lone Slovak club played host to the team that is in last place, UTE. Pavel Kowawlczyk scored on a two man PP for the home side, five minutes later Marek Uram scored an even strength goal. At 36:34 of the game something happened that doesn't happen that often, and that is a penalty shot. Gergő Bereczki was called for hooking, and Marek Dubec was cool as a cucumber and converted on the PS and made it 3-0. Lukas Ruzicka scored the last goal for the home side.
UTE was able to break the shutout with just under five minutes left on a two man power play with the veteran András Horváth finding the back of the cage for his first of the season.
Csíkszereda-Miskolc 2-1
If you like hard fought defensive struggles then this Friday night match up was for you. The match had a total of eight penalty minutes with the one Csíkszereda tripping call being offset by Miskolc having too many men on the ice. The home side jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Ede Mihály goal. The Canadian forward Jordan Knox even things up at 16:25 when he put the puck past Stanislav Kozuch and into the cage. The teams stayed even at ones until Mihály's second goal of the match, which proved to be the game winner.
Brasov-FTC 3-2
Brasov looked to get revenge on home ice against FTC for the overtime loss they had suffered the previous week in Budapest. Of the five goals that was scored between the two sides, only one of them was an even strength goal. The Wolves opened up the scoring with Zsolt Mastaleriu taking a feed from Róbert Péter and beating Michal Meravy for the SHG. In the second period Mikael Potila and Ferencváros were finally able to take advantage of a PP to even things up. Potila 'The Finnish Flash' scored again with his linemates Ákos Berta and Norbert Dancsfalvi again getting the assists and putting the Green Eagles up 2-1. The visitors were not able to hold on to the lead, four minutes later Brasov tied it up on a PPG by Magor Petres. When it looked like the game was going to head to overtime Evgeny Pysarenko came to the rescue and scored a PPG with the help of an opponent's skate with one second left in the match.
Csíkszereda-FTC 8-3
Ferencváros' coach decided to go with the veteran Krisztián Budai in net for the back end of the Transylvanian road trip. A Szabolcs Szőcs goal opened up the scoring for the home side, however the visitors responded back with an Antti Ojanen even strength score. Zsombor Molnár's goal had Csíkszereda up 2-1 at the end of the first period. At the start of the second period FTC was able to score twice within a 40 second span to take the lead. Norbert Dancsfalvi and Ojanen's second of the match put them up 3-2. Ede Mihály who has been on fire lately brought everything back to even with Molnár's second of the match and Attila Góga's scores coming on the one and two man advantage respectively. After two periods the home team had a two goal lead, this was when the bottom fell out for the visitors. Ervin Moldován scored within the first minute of the 3rd period, with a couple of minutes later Budai letting in two in the span of five seconds. This prompted FTC to switch keepers as Michal Meravy had a clean sheet the rest of the match but this was a little too late as the final score was set at 8-3.
Brasov-Miskolc 4-5 SO
The game started with a relatively quiet first period with Martin Saluga scoring the only goal, by comparison the second was action packed. Adrián Tóth pulled the visitors even, later in the period during a one minute interval there were three goals scored Kevin Wehrs for Brasov scored a SHG with Jordan Knox and László Ritó putting the biscuit in the cage for the Polar Bears, with Knox's being a PPG. Miskolc was up 3-2 at the start of the third but Zsolt Molnár help his team out with a goal and evened it up. Tóth had his second of the match with just under two minutes left and it looked like the winner but Brasov pulled netminder for the extra attacker and it panned out for them as Molnár's second of the night sent the game to overtime.
After the five minutes of bonus hockey the teams were locked up at four all, in the shootout Tóth had the winner to go along with his two in regulation.
