Hungary faced Austria with a shorter bench but a stronger roster as they they defeated Austria in Kapfenberg 1-0.
As expected Anikó Németh started in net along with her twin sister Bernadett and the Pintér sisters there were two pairs of siblings in the starting six, Fruzsina Mayer and Tifani Horváth rounded out the starting lineup. Hungary had a number of scoring chances in the first period but were not able to take advantage of any of them. After failing to score on a power play Hanna Pintér had a breakaway and Tifani Horváth was denied as well.
The second period continued with the same pace as the first twenty minutes ended. Both teams created chances just like in the first however both goalies stood their ground. Hungary managed to kill the first part of a penalty at the end of the second period and the remaining time at the start of the third period.
Head coach Tibor Marton decided to make a switch in net as Vanessa Horváth replaced Németh who had pitched a shutout through the first two periods. The defence kept up the great play as Hungary killed another penalty later in the period. Late in the period Lili Pintér forced the goalie to turn over the puck and put it into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Horváth shut the door in the remaining minutes as Hungary picked up their first win of the season.
