The Hungarian Women’s team opened up the World championships with a solid 5-1 over North Korea on the first day.

Just like last year Hungary won with ease over North Korea to pick up a crucial three points and to start the tournament off on the right foot. As expected coach Tibor Marton gave Anikó Németh the starting nod in goal. After not being able to score on two powerplay opportunities in the first period Hungary final broke through when Lilli Pintér set up Tifani Horváth for the opening goal of the game, in the last minute of the first period Réka Dabasi doubled the lead.

In the third period Lili Pintér added a goal to her assist when she took a pass from her sister Hanna and deposited the puck past Yong Ri Hye the North Korean goalie.

In the third period Hungary was able to score their first powerplay goal of the game thanks to Franciska Kiss-Simon, this also happened to be the goal that chased Ri Hye from the net as she was replaced by Sim So Jong. It looked like the moves shook up the North Koreans as they were able to beat Németh to make it 4-1, but it was not enough Hungary managed to get one back and set the final at 5-1 with Rebeka Ungár scoring the last goal.

Coaches Corner

Tibor Marton- “We have talked about it a lot but we are not mentally strong yet, we are a more skilled team than North Korea and that was one of teh main reasons that we were able to win today. For the first half of the game we were not playing our system and we were missing scoring opportunities but lucklez we were not impatient. We picked up three points in the opening game, we will need to concentrate a lot more tomorrow.”
