The Women’s national team opened up their four nations tournament in St.Pölten Austria against the Canadian national team.
The Canadians were coached by someone that is familiar to Hungarian hockey former national team assistant coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk. Hungarian coach Tibor Marton gave Anikó Németh the start in net against a strong Canadian team.
Canada pulled away early in the game and did not look back as they scored four goals in the first period. The score remained 4-0 for a long time, but during a one minute span they put the puck past Németh three times to finish the second period up 7-0. The game was already out of reach when they scored one goal in the third period.
Hungarian coach Tibor Marton: We asked the girls not to look at the jersey of the opponents but to just play. At first this did not work, I asked the girls to play like they have in the past because if we make any mistakes they would capitalize on them. We worked much harder in the second half of the game.
