Hungary to open against Slovakia in May

The International Ice Hockey Federation has released the schedule for the 2016 world championships, Hungary will open against Slovakia in St.Petersburg on May 7th.

A couple weeks have passed since Hungary captured the silver in Krakow and won promotion to the A Pool, and also since the world championships in Prague as well. After the world championships the new world rankings came out as well with Hungary staying 19th, which they took into consideration when the schedule was made up for next years tournament.

The 2016 world championships will start on May 6th in Moscow with Sweden facing Latvia, in St.Petersburg the defending champions Canada will play the U.S. in a  North American derby. Russia- Czech Republic and Finland-Belarus will be the late games at the respective sites.

The rest of the teams will start the tournament on the 7th, Hungary will play Slovakia just as they did in 2009 in Switzerland.

The middle game on the 7th in St.Petersburg is the co host for 2017, Germany against France, with the day closing with a Belarus-USA game. Both Moscow and St.Petersburg will each host 28 group matches, two quarterfinal games, with the semifinals and all other placement games being played in Moscow.

Ticket will be on sales starting in the autumn.
