As expected Rich Chernomaz made changes to the roster that hit the ice in Vienna with Ádám Vay starting in net. Also playing in their first game during training camp was Frank Banham and István Bartalis.

The game started balanced as both teams had scoring chances, midway through the first period Bartalis squared the puck that went through the traffic in front of the net. Later in the period Hungary had a power play that they never really had a chance to set up. Hungary had out shot Slovenia 12 to 10 in the first period.
Early in the second period Andrew Sarauer was set up for a scoring chance and minutes later Hungary had another chance that they could not capitalize on. Just like Hungary, Slovenia also was not able to convert on their first power play of the game. At the midway point of the game both teams switched goalies as it was planned, coming into the game was Zoltán Hetényi for Ádám Vay. Not much later Slovenia took a 1-0 lead after Hetényi made a save on a shot from just outside of the crease but Pretnar was on the spot to put the puck past Hetényi. Later in the period Hungary caught Slovenia on line change but again they were not able to take advantage of it.

In the third period Hungary had scoring chances but it was Slovenia that scored to make it 2-0 as Ziga Pance scored from the bottom of the faceoff circle. Slovenia did not look as if they were going to get tired as the game went on. As the third period went on it was clear that Hungary was through a tough couple days of training camp. Hungary called timeout with 40 seconds left in the game and game and pulled their goalie, Slovenia tacked on one last empty netter to set the final 3-0.
