Canada started to pull away during the middle of the period as a Marchand shot slipped through the legs of Hetényi to make it 4-1 and Brassard goal made it 5-1 and just over a minute later Matheson made it 6-1. Chernomaz switched goalies as Vay came in for Hetényi, Vay kept the game at 6-1 though the rest of the period.
