Head coach Rich Chernomaz decided to stay with the hot hand in net as Ádám Vay got the start with Miklós Rajna as the backup with Zoltán Hetényi being scratched. Also not in the lineup was Csanád Erdély and Krisztián Nagy, however playing against the U.S. was Frank Banham and Csaba Kovács.

The game started off much like the game against Finland as the U.S. dictated the pace of the game in the first half of the period. Hungary failed to score on their first power play of the game, what was better news was that Ádám Vay also brought the same level of play as against Finland. In the opening period Hungary had straight 5 on 3 penalty kill that thanks to the great play of Vay Hungary managed kill the penalty. At the end of the period USA had out shot Hungary 15-1.

Early in the second period Hungary had scoring chance when Andrew Sarauer predicted a Balázs Sebők pass off the post. The U.S. broke the ice on a power play goal when they caught Hungary on a counter attack during a power play with Foligno skating in on a break away. Less than twenty seconds later USA doubled the lead on shot from the right faceoff dot. Hungary started to pick their offence as Jesse Dudás had a shot from the point. Later in the period Larkin made it 3-0 when he came down the left wing and banked the puck off of Vay’s back.

Hungary kept up the great work on the defensive end, however the first shot on net in the period did not reach the U.S. net until a power play at the midway point of the period. Vay did stop a Brock Nelson break away but not much later Foligno scored his second of the game when he skated in and took a shot from high in the slot to make it 4-0. A Murphy shot that trickled through Vay made it 5-0 for the U.S. In the closing minutes Hungary had a power play that they took advantage of, István Bartalis had the puck behind the net, fed it to István Sofron who put it in from the lip of the crease to make it 5-1.
