In the gold medal match for the Hungarian Cup defending champions DVTK Jegesmedvék took on Fehérvár AV19. Miklós Rajna started in net for Volán with Frank Banham and Dániel Kóger missing from the lineup on the other side Dávid Gyenes was between the pipes Nikandrosz Galanisz was missing with an injury and Jesse Dudás was sitting out a suspension.
The game started out at a fast pace Volán took a 1-0 lead when they set up a nice tic-tac-toe play as the puck went from Andrew Sarauer, Chris Bodó and Brance Orbán fired a one timer into the empty net. Less than a minute later DVTK crashed the net and in the end Balázs Somogyi put in a rebound to tie it at 1-1. The game started to get a bit chippy as there was a real playoff game feeling.
Fehérvár took the lead back when after a series of passes Chris Francis weaved through the DVTK defence and slipped the puck past Gyenes for the goal. The two teams had calmed down a bit as one was trying to defend the lead with the other trying to tie it up. With less than a minute left in the period Bence Szirányi took a shot that was saved, however Tihamér Becze was on the spot to put the rebound in to take a two goal lead in the second intermission.
In the third period the teams played very civilized as the minutes rolled off the clock. Later in the period Gergő Nagy centered a pass that István Bartalis nicely redirected into the back of the net.
